How to Remove Car and Motorcycle Scratches

How to Remove Scratches from Cars and Motorbikes: Complete Guide
Scratches on car and motorbike surfaces are a common issue that can affect both the appearance and the value of your vehicle. Fortunately, with the right polishing products, you can effectively remove them and restore the original shine.
Lux Metal polishing kits are designed to tackle all types of scratches — from light to deep — on paint, plastic and metal surfaces.
Identify the Type of Scratch
Light Scratches
These are surface marks that do not penetrate the main layer of paint. They are usually caused by light contact or daily wear.
To remove them, use a fine abrasive paste with a polishing effect, such as Lux Metal liquid polishing pastes for plastics, ideal for headlight covers and fairings made of plexiglass:

Medium Scratches
Medium scratches cut through the clear coat and reach the paint layer. In this case, use medium-grade abrasive pastes that correct the damage and prepare the surface for final finishing.
We recommend the Lux Metal solid polishing pastes for plastics, ideal for painted or transparent surfaces:

Deep Scratches
These reach the lower layers of paint or even the metal itself. They require a stronger treatment with high-cut abrasive pastes, followed by a fine polishing stage.
The Lux Metal PL Abrasive Paste Kit is perfect for this task, featuring three levels of abrasiveness (Hard, Fine and Super Fine):

How to Remove Scratches from Cars and Motorbikes
1. Preparing the Surface
Clean the scratched area thoroughly with a mild detergent and a microfibre cloth. Make sure the surface is free of dirt and dust to avoid creating new marks during the process.
2. Choosing the Right Product
Select the most suitable Lux Metal abrasive paste based on the depth of the scratch:
-
Fine / Super Fine for light scratches;
-
Hard for deeper scratches, followed by Fine for a smooth finish.
Lux Metal pastes are easy to use both manually and with polishing machines.
3. Applying the Abrasive Paste
Apply a small amount of paste to a microfibre cloth or polishing pad. Work in circular motions with steady, light pressure.
If using a polisher, keep a moderate speed to prevent overheating.
Repeat the process as needed, switching between different grades of paste until the surface is even and glossy.
4. Final Polishing and Shine
Finish with a Super Fine Lux Metal paste to achieve a mirror-like shine. This final step removes micro-marks and restores the original brilliance.
Wipe off any residue with a clean, dry cloth.
Maintenance and Protection
Once the scratches are removed, regularly apply a protective polish to maintain the shine and prevent new marks from forming.
Lux Metal polishing pastes are also excellent for ongoing maintenance of paintwork, chrome parts and plastics, providing lasting protection and a flawless appearance.
